About

In support of Elizabeth Speaks, Co-Executive Producer and fine artist, Delita Martin visited the Elizabeth Catlett Taller in Mexico to inspire a limited edition print of 100.

In an effort to uphold the artistic politics of Elizabeth Catlett, Naima opens her grandmother’s studio to “ELIZABETH’S DAUGHTERS” in an art residency where proceeds go to uplifting and empowering the voices of marginalized communities.

“ELIZABETH’S DAUGHTERS” an artistic and cultural exchange conceived to bring diverse worlds together through art practice and making it accessible to us ordinary folks.

ARTIST IN FOCUS

DELITA MARTIN

We reached out to our sister, master print maker and one of Elizabeth’s Daughters for support…

What followed was an intimate conversation between artists devoted to upholding the voices and spirits of Black women, where Martin graciously offered to pull an edition of prints in support of the forth coming film, ELIZABETH SPEAKS. In a residency dedicated to honoring the practice and voice of our shared mother Elizabeth, Martin will print and pull her edition from Catlett’s own printing press located in her home studio, preserved in Cuernavaca, México.

The limited edition of 100 will be available until sold out.

While not produced by NMP, please enjoy the educational video, “In Focus: Delita Martin” presented by National Museum of Women In The Arts.

Elizabeth’s Daughters

In an effort to uphold the artistic politics of Elizabeth Catlett, Naima opens her grandmother’s studio to “ELIZABETH’S DAUGHTERS” in an art residency where proceeds go to uplifting and empowering the voices of marginalized communities.

ELIZABETH’S DAUGHTERS” is an artistic and cultural exchange conceived to bring diverse worlds together through art practice and making it accessible to us ordinary folks.

In the intimate residency space of Elizabeth Catlett’s home studio, artists also known affectionately as “Elizabeth’s Daughters” are invited to work and produce a series that can be sold or gifted to institutions, projects or cultural spaces that empower marginalized communities. Together we uphold Catlett’s legacy and mantle her artistic politics in making the best art that is also accessible for our people — because as Elizabeth said “our people deserve the best.”

In residency, artists are welcome to stay at the Catlett Mora Estate or in near by hotel resorts. During their visit, a tour of Mexican culture, art and history is encouraged. Locations of interest include Aztec ruins, Murals of “Los Tres Grandes,” artisanal markets and traditional Mexican pre-colonial themed restaurants and eateries.

An Elizabeth’s Daughters Artist Residency can range from one week to a month stay in Cuernavaca, México.
